In Ruaan's words

Why I send people here

Bali splits people, and it is almost always because of where they stayed. Kuta and Seminyak at the wrong time of year will convince you the island is ruined. Ubud, the east coast and the north will convince you it is the best place you have ever been. Same island, two weeks apart.

I build Bali as two or three bases, never one. Ubud first, inland and cool and green, for the culture and the wellness side of it. Then the coast, and which coast depends entirely on whether you want surf, quiet or restaurants.

The traffic is the thing nobody tells you about. Distances that look like twenty minutes on a map are ninety minutes in reality. Planning around that is most of what makes a Bali trip feel effortless instead of frustrating.

What makes it

Three things that decide the trip

Ubud

Rice terraces, the monkey forest, and a villa with its own pool for less than you would pay for a hotel room at home.

A proper wellness stretch

Not a spa day. Three or four days built around it, which is what actually resets somebody.

The east

Sidemen and Amed, where the island still feels the way people imagine it.
